Who can be an egg donor?

To donate your eggs, you'll need to meet some simple criteria:

  • Aged between 18 and 35 years
  • Fit and healthy
  • No known inheritable diseases in the family
  • Non-smoker

What is the procedure?

Pre-consultation call

One of our friendly egg donation team will give you a call before your consultation to explain the whole process to you and answer and questions you might have. You will also be asked to complete a simple medical history questionnaire so we can get to know you better.

Initial Scan & Consultation

At this appointment the doctor will confirm whether you are suitable for egg donation and talk you through the process.

Treatment Consultation

At the appointment the nurse will show you how to use the medication and answer any further questions you have.

Scans & Blood tests

On the first day of your cycle (first day of period) call us and we will book you in for monitoring scans.

Egg collection

On the day of egg collection you will need to fast for a few hours before the procedure which will be carried out under sedation.

Egg Donation FAQs

1Will donating my eggs affect my fertility?
It's very unlikely that donating your eggs will have any negative effects on your fertility.
2How many times will I need to visit the clinic?
You'll need to come to the clinic between 6 - 10 times.
3Does donating eggs hurt?
Taking medication may produce a little discomfort but the egg collection will not hurt.
4Can a child born as a result of my donation find out who I am?
When you become an egg donor you will be asked for certain details. This information will initially be used by the clinic to assess your suitability as an egg donor. When you go on to become an egg donor that information will then be passed on to the HFEA which will keep your details on an up-to-date register. Your information will always be kept confidential and stored in line with Data Protection legislation. The HFEA will pass your details on to any individual born as a result of your donation if that person requests it.
5How are my eggs collected?
This procedure is performed in theatre under sedation and takes around 45 minutes.
